In the heart of St. Petersburg, stands a statue commemorating one of the most fascinating and powerful rulers ever. Everything about her life and reign was extraordinary. Its with good reason that shes known to this day as Catherine the Great. She was an outsider who plotted her way to the very top of the Russian empire. She seized the throne from her husband, killed him, then held onto power for 34 years - changing Russia forever.
