Description

1975. The imitable, reputable Hong Kong-based Shaw Brothers Studio, founded by industry extraordinaire Run Run Shaw, is known as much for the prolific output and persistent quality as their far-reaching influence on the Western film industry. The documentary exposes the studio"s unique practices of production, which tend to rest far outside the norms of Hollywood. Run Run Shaw is seen prepping acting juveniles for the silver screen, while an (English) interview with David Chiang unravels the beginnings and intense practices of the cult actor. But the most riveting section is watching the old-school process of over-dubbing and noise effects over Shaw"s silent footage–all of the sound had to be inserted in post.
