Andy was born August 6th 1928, in a two-room shanty in a ghetto of Pittsburgh. The family were Russian immigrants leaving poverty and the threatening of conscription. The youngest of three boys, Andy had 3 nervous breakdowns spread a year apart at 8,9 and 10. From just fifth grade on, he attended free art classes at the museum and by the age of 16 attended institute of technology, learning painting and design. Upon graduation he moved to new york, and after doing a variety of commercial works, he became a sought-after artist. In the early 60s he made his first pop pieces which soon after made him famous. He also began making his own films while painting his pop art projects.
